Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Const. Ryan Vendramin reportedly returned to the Sault Thanksgiving weekend after spending three weeks at Health Sciences North in Sudbury. The 26-year-old has since been transferred to Sault Area Hospital.

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Const. Ryan Vendramin returned to the Sault Thanksgiving weekend after a three-week stay at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, according to a social media post from his parents Sunday.

The 26-year-old police officer suffered serious injuries after being shot during an incident in late September where a 19-year-old was shot and killed by police. Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is handling the investigation.

Vendramin received a police escort to Sault Area Hospital from the airport over the weekend.

“Ryan has been flown home and transferred to Sault Area Hospital with an extremely touching Sault Ste. Marie Police Service escort from his colleagues. Thank you, thank you, thank you!,” reads the social media post. “Ryan will continue healing and await the go ahead to begin his rehab. Thank you to everyone for the continued outpouring of support and prayers for Ryan and his journey to recovery.

“Please continue praying for our hero.”

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service declined comment due to SIU invoking its mandate.
