An inmate at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre is accused of throwing cups of urine and feces at multiple people inside the prison.

It all began on June 30, when Sault police say an inmate reported being “assaulted and injured” by corrections officers at the facility. Investigators determined that the injuries "had been self-inflicted” the day before.

“Later that day, the accused assaulted staff at the ATRC by throwing cups of what is believed to be urine and feces at multiple victims,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

John Nemeth, 59, is charged with assaulting a peace officer, assault and public mischief. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations against Nemeth have been tested in court and he is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
