Sault Ste. Marie police charge 17-year-old with dangerous operation

After the theft of a pickup truck, erratic driving and a short foot chase with officers, a 17-year-old girl was arrested and faces several charges.

The accused resisted arrest and provided a false name.

She was remanded into custody and is schedules to appear in court on Dec. 9.

On Nov. 18, 2021, officers with Patrol Services charged a 17-year-old girl with dangerous operation.

Around 4:30 p.m., a pickup truck was reported stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Henrietta Avenue. Around 11:55 p.m., officers observed the stolen vehicle driving erratically in the Willow Avenue and Great Northern Road area. The vehicle came to a stop and the driver exited the vehicle and fled in the 0-100 block of Laurentian Drive. After a short foot chase officers located the accused hiding under a vehicle in the area.

The accused resisted arrest for a short time before officers were able to gain control of her and she was arrested. Once arrested, the accused provided a false name.

She is charged with:

  • Dangerous operation
  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Resisting or obstructing a peace Officer
  • Failure to comply with a judicial release order x4

She was held for bail court and remanded into custody. She is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 9, 2021.
