The missing swimmer has been identified and located in good health. The Sault Ste Marie Police would like to thank members of the public for the their assistance.

Further information indicates that the missing swimmer may frequent the area. Local residents advise that a male matching the description attends the area on a bicycle often and enters the water with a flotation device.  

 Anyone that has knowledge of this males identity is asked to contact the Sault Ste Marie Police at 705-949-6300 ext 9.

On September 17 at 6 p.m. police received a complaint of a swimmer that may be in distress while off the Gros Cap Bluffs at the end of Second Line West.

A search and rescue operation is currently underway in Lake Superior with Police, Coast Guard, Sault Search and Rescue and Military personnel.

The swimmer is described as a white male, late 50s, heavy build, and balding. He was last seen wearing red shorts, a red shirt and runners.

Police are currently attempting to identify this male. Anyone with information as to the identity of this male is asked to contact the Sault Ste Marie City Police at 705-949-6300 ext 9
