A 23-year-old is facing multiple charges after a reported robbery on Bay Street.

On Aug. 25, 2023, officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services's Patrol Services unit responded to a robbery at a business in the 200 block of Bay Street around 6 p.m.

Officers arrived on scene and identified the accused, who had been taken into custody by security at the business.

Police say that an investigation led them to believe that the accused had attempted to leave the business with items they had not paid for.

When confronted by staff, police say the individual threatened them with a hypodermic needle and lit a stolen item of clothing on fire. Police also say that, while being taken into custody by security, the accused had spit on and kicked them.
