Slew of weapons charges laid after George Street arrest

Police say 25-year-old suspect flashed a handgun during a disturbance on Tuesday; more than a dozen police vehicles were dispatched to the scene after 911 call

Sault police have provided more details about a Tuesday morning incident on George Street South that triggered a heavy police presence.

Someone phoned 911 at approximately 11:30 a.m. to report that a person they knew had “flashed a handgun at them.” When police arrived at the house, the suspect came outside and was arrested without incident.

Police say a further search uncovered a loaded semi-automatic handgun and a magazine containing ammunition.

Jacques Roy, 25, is charged with:

  • assault with weapon
  • using firearm in commission of offence
  • carrying concealed weapon
  • unauthorized possession of firearm
  • careless use of firearm
  • possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • failure to comply with probation order (x2)

Roy was held in custody pending a bail hearing and has since been remanded.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and he is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
