Two people were arrested last night after another person was punched, kicked and hit multiple times with the handle of a shovel.

Sault Police say the assault occurred in the 700 block of Wellington Street East at around 4 a.m. Monday.

Police say the victim knew both suspects.

“An investigation revealed a victim was struck multiple times with a shovel handle by the first accused and was punched and kicked multiple times by the second accused,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “The victim sustained moderate physical injuries and was transported to hospital.”

Arrest warrants were issued for both suspects — but they weren’t wanted for long. Both were located and arrested Monday night around 10:30 p.m. in the same area where the assault occurred.

Alexandra Bright, 30, is charged with assault with a weapon and failing to comply with a probation order.

Rune Laudadio, 23, is charged with assault and failing to comply with an undertaking.

Both were released on undertakings and are scheduled back in court on July 22.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and both are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
