Stolen bank cards seized during break and enter arrest

Police believe the accused is responsible for two break-ins that occurred last night

An arrest has been made after police officers responded to two break and enter incidents last evening in the McNabb Street and Plaintree Drive areas.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service located and arrested the accused – 29-year-old Shawn Mandigo – early this morning.

Mandigo was in possession of bank cards reported stolen during one of the earlier incidents.

Full text of a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service follows:

On Oct. 11, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged 29-year-old Shawn Mandigo with break and enter.

Around 10 p.m. on Oct. 10, 2022, officers responded to a suspicious person in the 200 block of McNabb Street, attempting to enter a residence. Upon arrival the person was gone, however, officers were able to obtain a description of the person.

Around 11:33 p.m., officers responded to a break and enter in progress at a residence in the 0-100 block of Plaintree Drive. Upon arrival, the person had fled the area. The victim provided a description of the person and reported bank cards, keys and Canadian currency had been stolen.

On Oct. 11, 2022 around 2:30 a.m., officers were at an unrelated call for service in the 400 block of Pim Street when they observed a person matching the description from the previous two incidents. They were arrested and later identified as the accused. A subsequent search found them to be in possession of the bank cards reported stolen.

    •    Theft under $5,000
    •    Mischief under $5,000
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime
    •    Theft of credit card

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
