An alleged credit card thief was arrested early Saturday morning after police say he tried to use one of the cards at a business on Wellington Street.

Sault Police were dispatched to the 1200 block of Wellington Street East at around 3:15 a.m. on Dec. 2. Nearby, they located a person matching the description of the suspect.

Police say a search uncovered two credit cards, a debit card, and a birth certificate that did not belong to the suspect.

“The accused was arrested,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “All items were returned to their rightful owners.”

Aaron Kerr, 26, is charged with two counts of possessing a stolen credit card and one count of possessing property obtained by crime (under $5,000).

He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled back in court on Jan. 22, 2024.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Kerr is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
