On February 1, 2015 officers from the Crime Suppression Unit located and arrested 39 year old William Brett Barkley of Wellington Street East, Sault Ste. Marie. In the early morning hours William Barkley was observed by the officers breaking the glass at a west end business in an attempt to gain entry. When the officers arrested Barkley he was found to be in possession of a screwdriver which was being used to assist him in the break in. Barkley was charged with break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of break in tools. The accused will be in bail court February 2.
On February 1, 2015 55 year old William Johnston of Walnut St, Sault Ste. Marie attended a store in the Station Mall. While in the store the accused selected a computer keyboard and mouse valued at $29.96. Upon exiting the store the accused failed to pay for the selected items and was arrested by store security. Police attended and found the accused was also on an undertaking with a condition to notify any changes of his address, which he failed to do as well as a probation order with a condition to keep the peace and be of good behavior which he failed to do. The accused was charged with theft under $5000, breach of undertaking and breach of probation. The accused will attend court on March 9th.
On January 31st 2015 police were called to the Manitou Motel at 1279 Wellington St East for a male with a hammer pounding at a door. Investigation revealed that the accused was upset with his neighbors and was damaged their door. Charged with Mischief under $5000 is 49 year old Dennis Swanson of 1279 Wellington St East.
On January 31st at approximately 11:00 p.m. police checked a snow machine driving on Everett St. Investigation revealed that the operator was impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and during the arrest he assaulted a police officer. Once at the station he refused to provide a breath sample. Charged with impaired driving, fail to provide sample, assault police and breach of probation is 42 year old Wendell Mckay of Parliament St. He will appear in court on March 9 2015.
