Suspect with crystal meth fails to escape from police

Police say a suspect tried to run away when officers told them they were under arrest for assault.

When officers did gain control of the suspect, they found what they suspect is roughly five grams of crystal meth. 

The incident with police started around 6 p.m . on Wednesday, when a victim reported being assaulted by someone they know. The suspect had run away on Second Line East. Police found the accused nearby, and when they told the person they were under arrest, police say they continued attempting to run away and resist arrest. 

Svante Appelkvist, 34, is charged with assault, assault - choking, resisting a peace officer, possession of a Schedule 1 substance and failure to comply with an undertaking. 

Appelkvist is in custody pending a bail hearing.
