Suspected heroin seized after driver found asleep at the wheel: Police

Police have charged Adam Lamoureux with impaired driving after it is alleged that the accused was found asleep behind the wheel yesterday morning.

A news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that officers responded to the intersection of North Street and Northern Avenue where they found the accused asleep and believed him to be impaired by drug.

A search subsequent to his arrest revealed the accused to be in possession of suspected heroin.

On May 19, 2021, officers with Patrol Services charged 34-year-old Adam Lamoureux with impaired driving – alcohol and drug.

Around 11:19 p.m., officers responded to a call of a vehicle stopped at the intersection of North Street and Northern Avenue, with the driver appearing to be sleeping.

Upon arrival, officers observed the driver to be asleep behind the wheel. Officers woke the driver, identified him as the accused and developed grounds to believe his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs. He was arrested.

A subsequent search of the area of arrest found the accused to be in possession of approximately one gram of a substance believed to be heroin. He completed a drug recognition evaluation in which he performed poorly.

He is charged with impaired driving – alcohol and drug and possession of a controlled substance. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 28, 2021.
