Theft and impaired charges ensue after stop

A stop by city police led to charged of theft and impaired driving over the weekend

On May 28th, 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 39-year-old Emmanuel Castrejon of First Avenue in relation to a stolen vehicle and impaired driving.

It is alleged that on May 28th, just after 2:00 p.m. the accused took a vehicle that he did not own from the 500 block of Wallace Terrace.  The accused drove the vehicle a short distance while intoxicated and after he came to a stop he exited the vehicle and broke a window on the property of the victim with a shovel.

The accused was arrested and a demand was made from him to provide a sample of his breath into an approved instrument.  The accused later refused to provide a breath sample.  As a result, the accused has been charged with one count of mischief under $5,000, one count of theft over $5,000, one count of impaired operation of motor vehicle and one count of refusing to provide a breath sample.  He will appear in court on July 4, 2017.
