Theft suspect accused of assaulting police

31-year-old charged with robbery, four counts of assault peace officer

One person was arrested on Friday evening after officers saw the 31-year-old “swing a floor sign at a staff member” at a Great Northern Road business before fleeing the scene.

In a news release, Sault police say that following a short foot chase, the suspect spat on officers multiple times and resisted arrest.

On Jan. 6, 2023, officers in Patrol Services charged 31-year-old Brooks Warmington with robbery and assault peace officer.

Around 5:30 p.m., officers were at a business in the 0-100 block of Great Northern Road when they heard a commotion at a nearby business. Officers observed the accused swing a floor sign at a staff member of the business. Officers went to intervene, and the accused fled on foot. A short foot chase took place, and the accused was taken into custody.

As officers were gaining control of the accused, the accused spit on them multiple times and was resisting arrest. A subsequent search of the accused found them to be in possession of a knife stolen from the business.

The accused is charged with
    •    Robbery
    •    Assault peace officer x4
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime
    •    Resist peace officer

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
