One person has been arrested after officers found them in possession of what is believed to be a stolen vehicle exhaust system.

Officers responded to a call regarding a person on Bruce Street carrying a catalytic converter at approximately 11:30 p.m. yesterday, says a news release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

"Upon arrival, officers located a person matching the description with what is believed to be an entire exhaust system from a vehicle," the release says. "Officers developed grounds to believe it was stolen and the accused was arrested."

As a result of this investigation, 26-year-old Donald Jones was arrested and charged with:
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime
    •    Breach of probation – failing to keep the peace and be of good behaviour

Jones was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 27.

Investigators believe the exhaust system in question is from a Chevrolet or GMC 2500. Anyone with information that may lead to the identification of the owner of the system is asked to contact police by phone at 705-949-6300.
