Theft suspects charged with breaching provincial lockdown order: Sault Police

Sault Police have charged three people in relation to a theft incident that occurred Saturday morning.

In a news release issued today, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service states that a search warrant was executed on Brunswick Avenue during which a quantity of stolen tools was recovered and returned to the owner.

The three accused face theft-related charges.

"The three accused and a fourth person found in the residence were issued provincial offence notices for breaching the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act during a lockdown," the release states.

On Feb. 13, 2021, officers with Patrol Services charged 47-year-old Darrel Dowding, 37-year-old Joshua Hyrsky, and 27-year-old Tyler Vary with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

At 9:15 a.m., police received a call of a large quantity of tools being stolen from Hampton Road. As the investigation continued, officers executed a search warrant at 5:40 p.m. at a residence in the 500 block of Brunswick Avenue. Upon entering the residence, the three accused were located and arrested.

A subsequent search of the residence located all of the stolen tools. They were returned to the victim.

Mr. Dowding is charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and breach of probation. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 22, 2021.

Mr. Hyrsky is charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 29, 2021.

Mr. Vary is charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, breach of recognizance, and breach of probation. He was held for WASH court.
