Three teenagers were arrested over the weekend for allegedly stealing two fire extinguishers from a downtown business and “misusing” the devices.

The incident occurred on Saturday, when someone phoned 911 to report three youths discharging fire extinguishers in the 300 block of Queen Street East. By the time officers arrived, the suspects were gone.

“Further investigation revealed the suspects had entered a business in the 200 block of Queen Street East and stolen two fire extinguishers less than 15 minutes before police were called,” says a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

By Sunday, police had identified the suspects and arrested all three. One is 15 and the other two are 14.

Each is charged with two counts of theft under $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.

All three were released on undertakings and are scheduled back in court on Jan. 30, 2024.
