Assault and Mischief On July 24-25, 2013 police responded to a domestic disturbance on Queen Street West. It is alleged that the accused male age 40 assaulted the victim by causing injury to the victims right eye resulting I bruising and swelling.

On July 24-25, 2013 police responded to a domestic disturbance on Queen Street West. It is alleged that the accused male age 40 assaulted the victim by causing injury to the victims right eye resulting I bruising and swelling.  Further it is alleged that the accused broke the victim’s fish aquarium and fan.  On August 1, 2013 the accused turned himself in at the police station and charged with assault and mischief. The accused will appear in bail court on August 2, 2013 at 10:00am

Assault charges

On August 1, 2013 police responded to a domestic disturbance in the area of Albert Street East and Hughes Street.  It is alleged that a 43 year old male assaulted the victim by bang her head into the wall and punching her in the face.  The accused then hit another victim with a door cutting the victim’s ankle.  The accused was arrested for assault and assault with a weapon.  The accused will appear in bail court August 2, 2013 at 10:00 am.

 

Impaired and Drug Related Arrests

On the 1st of August 2013 at approximately 2 am officers from Patrol Services observed a vehicle travelling northbound on Pine Street at a high rate of speed and were able to stop the vehicle on Great Northern Road.  The officers found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. As a result 21-year old Mark Lomas of 49 Fairmount Drive was charged with one count of consume over the legal limit.

While officers were dealing with Mr. Lomas his passenger asked if he could retrieve some of his property from the trunk.  When the officers opened the trunk for the passenger they located a large quantity of marijuana.

Officers from the Drug Unit were called in to assist with the investigation.  A total of 1362 grams of marihuana, a digital scale and packing supplies were seized.  The estimated street value of the drugs is $27,240.00.

As a result 22-year old Kyle Thibodeau of 350 Pine Street was charged with one count of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in a Controlled Drug or Substance.   

Both males will appear in court on September 9, 2013.

Appeal for Witnesses for Motor Vehicle Collision

At 07:05 hours this morning officers from Traffic Services attended at the intersection of South Market and Chambers Avenue for a motor vehicle collision with injuries.

The collision involved a black car and a motorcycle with a trailer. The injuries are minor in nature and officers are continuing their investigation.  Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call Traffic Services at 705-949-6300 ext. 295.

Yesterday afternoon officers from Investigation Services arrested 46-year old Michael Portelance of #2-859 Trunk Road and charged him with two counts of breach of a release order.  It is alleged that between June 1st and July 30th the accused accessed a computer and the internet while on conditions not to use either.  He will appear in court on August 26, 2013.

A garage on Salisbury Avenue was broken into overnight between July 30th and July 31st.  It is unknown if anything was taken.

Yesterday morning a resident on Goulais Avenue reported the theft of a TomTom GPS from their vehicle.

Yesterday morning a resident in the 300 block of Wellington Street West reported the theft of a laptop, some beer and change from a vehicle overnight.

On July 31st City Police Detectives attended at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre and arrested and charged William Sparks, age 35 of 21 Grosvenor Ave with Break and Enter and Assault, along with two counts of Breaching a Court Order. Detectives learned that on July 20th 2013 Sparks had broken into an apartment on Queen St. West and assaulted the resident there. Further that on July 30th while bound by a court order not to communicate with two parties, Sparks breached his court imposed conditions by talking with them. Sparks will appear in court on Aug. 1st.

On July 31st shortly after 5:00 pm Mandi Klages, age 38 of 95 Goulais Ave was arrested for shoplifting clothes from Walmart. Patrol Officers noted she was with Mark Nadeau, age 25 of 196 Second Line West at the time of her arrest. A police records check showed that Klages and Nadeau were on a court imposed order not to associate with each other. Officers charged Klages with Theft under $5,000.00 and Breach of Recognizance. Nadeau has been charged with Breach of Recognizance. They will appear in court on August 1st.
