Outstanding Warrants
At approx. 11:40 PM last night City Police officers stopped a motor vehicle that was being driven without proper headlights. Upon investigating the driver it learned that he was wanted for outstanding warrants. Charged with Fail to Appear in Court, Fail to Comply with Release Order and Possession of Stolen Property is 33-year-old David Ray Maitland of 84 Wallace Terr. Mr. Maitland will be appearing in Bail Court today at 10:00 AM.
Assault With Weapon
Last evening at approx. 6:40 PM City Police arrested a 29-year-old female and charged her with Threatening and Assault with a Weapon. It is alleged that on Tuesday August 9th at approx. 3:10 PM the accused, Tina Amos, of 50 Lake St., Echo Bay, and the victim were in the parking lot of the Cambrian Mall when they became involved in a verbal argument. The accused then approached the victim and swung an axe at her. The axe did not strike the victim. The accused also threatened to kill the victim. The assault and threatening charges are part of an on going dispute between the accused and the victim. Mrs. Amos will be appearing in court on Monday Sept. 19th at 9:00 AM.
Break and Enters
The Sault Ste Marie Police Service is investigating three reports of Break and Enter in the past 24 hours. A home in the 500 block of Second Ave was entered and a quantity of electronic and hockey equipment was stolen from this residence. Entry to premises was via an unlocked side door.
A premise in the 1000 block of Great Northern Rd. was entered yesterday evening. Entry was gained by forcing the hasp on the door. It is unknown what was taken from these premises.
Yesterday afternoon, between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM, a victim reports that unknown person(s) entered her home while she was sleeping and stole her purse.
Purse Thefts
City Police took three reports of theft of purses from offices yesterday afternoon. Thefts were reported from: 1. Shoppers Drug Mart Home Care Store at Great Northern and McNabb St.
2. Mailboxes Etc. at 143 A Great Northern Rd. and the
3. Cambrian Dental Offices.
Police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating a possible suspect for the Shoppers Homer Care theft. A person described as Male, Caucasian, short black hair, 5’6”, with a baggy shirt and carrying a black and red backpack is wanted for questioning in this incident. He was last seen getting onto a bus and heading downtown. It is believed that the incidents took place at about 4:00 PM.
Attempted Theft From Vehicle
Police are also looking for a male regarding an attempted theft from a vehicle. This incident took place at the rear of 669 Queen St. E. near East St. The suspect used a piece of wood to pry a car window open. This suspect is described as: Male in his 20’s, tall, skinny, short dark hair. Wearing a dark blue t-shirt with ECHO printed on it, blue shorts and white runners. Anyone with information on either of these two suspects is asked to call the City Police or Crime stoppers.
