Assault Charges Laid
A 32-year old male was arrested yesterday morning and charged with 2 counts of assault. It is alleged that earlier this month the accused assaulted his 11-year-old child by punching the child in the leg area and by pulling the child’s hair. The male victim was also slapped across the face and thrown to the ground. As a result the accused was charged and will appear in court on September 26th. The victim did seek medical treatment for non-life threatening. The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.
Female Charged With Theft
Yesterday afternoon 49-year old Sharon Kane of 206-345 St. Georges Avenue East was arrested and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the accused attempted to steal $240 worth of clothing from Sears in the Station Mall. The accused was apprehended by store security and turned over to City Police. The accused will appear in court on September 19th.
Breach of a Release Document
49-year old Marcel Beaulieu of 772 Wellington Street East was arrested just after 1 am this morning. Officers received a call to the Wellington Street East and Pim Street area in regards to an intoxicated person. The accused was found to be under the influence of alcohol. A query of Mr. Beaulieu revealed that he was on a release document with conditions not to consume alcohol and to be in his residence between 10 pm and 7 am. The accused has been charged with 2 counts of breach of a release document and will appear in court on September 26th.
Transport Accident
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate a single motor vehicle accident yesterday morning involving a transport trailer on Lyons Avenue at Korah Road. The 35-year old female driver of the transport was taken to the Sault Area Hospital and for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and has been released.
Motor Vehicle Collision
Yesterday morning just after 9:15 am City Police attended on Great Northern Road in the 400 block for a motor vehicle collision that resulted in 2 persons being taken to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A pickup truck operated by 49-year old Louis Jean of Quebec was looking to pull out of a civic address on enter onto Great Northern Road. Several vehicles stopped to allowed Mr. Jean to enter the roadway to attempt to go northbound. A pickup truck operated by 54-year-old Donald Irwin of Goulais River was traveling southbound on Great Northern Road in the turning lane and struck Mr. Jean’s truck when it entered the lane of traffic Mr. Irwin was traveling in. Both drivers were taken to the hospital. Both vehicles received severe damage. Mr. Jean has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of fail to yield to traffic on through highway. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists to be careful when proceeding across the roadways when some cars stop to allow you out. Remember, not every one is going to stop and it is your responsibility to ensure you can proceed safety. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Services investigates several accidents of this nature yearly.
4 break and enter reports were received yesterday:
1) A shed had been entered in the 500 block of Parliament Street overnight on the 16th and 17th. Fortunately nothing was taken.
2) A home in the 800 block of Second Line West was entered in the last few days and thieves made off with a TV, a stereo as well as clothing.
3) A home in the 200 block of Greenfield Drive was entered between Sunday and last evening. Money and jewellery were taken.
4) Last evening a home in the 100 block of Wiber Street was entered and jewellery was taken.
Vandalism to a Vehicle
Just after midnight City Police attended in the 100 block of Wiber Street after a report was received of extensive vandalism to a vehicle. A truck was spray painted with yellow paint and vulgarities were written on it as well with the paint. A vehicle with several males was seen in the area at the time but no further description is available.
