Sault Ste Marie Police report there have been 18 motor vehicle collisions since 9:30AM due to weather conditions. Police would like to remind motorists to slow down and to be more consciences of their driving habits during this time of the year.

Criminal harassment

On Thursday, 20 December 2012, Sault Ste Marie police arrested 52 year old Roger Reginald Philion, of 623 Douglas Street with criminal harassment. Philion repeatedly harassed a local businessman and his family.

Domestic:

A 23 year old male is in custody charged with several domestic related offences including criminal harassment and breach of a recognizance and breach of probation. It is alleged that while attending domestic violence court on 19 Dec 2012  for  threatening charges and breach of probation charges stemming from a domestic incident with the same victim, the accused was witnessed by police watching, staring at, and intimidating the victim. The victim was very fearful for her safety and requested an escort.  The accused then proceeded to follow the victim and police into the west parking lot of the court house and while walking through the parking lot he continued to intimidate her. The accused breached the conditions of his recognizance and a probation order where he is not to molest, harass, or physically interfere with her and is prohibited from communicating with her directly or indirectly. He will be bail court this morning.

Mischief:

51 year old Gordon Petts of 125 Gore Street was arrested and charged with mischief.  It is alleged hat on the 17th of December 2012 at approximately 03:30hrs a female was at her residence at Albert Street East when she heard a party known to her as Gordon Petts enter onto her property into the rear backyard.  He began throwing snowballs at her upstairs windows and broke a window, causing mischief under $5000.

Property Crimes:

Roland Periard, age 27, of 490 Parliament St. has been arrested and charged with theft, break and enter, possession of stolen property and breach of probation stemming from two incidents. On the 28th of Novevember 2012 a Soo Greyhounds staff member reported a theft of money from an office at the Essar Center. On the 27th of November 2012 at approximately 6:00 p.m. an unknown male attended the office area and stole money from the pocket of a pair of pants. Periard was subsequently identified from the surveillance footage.

On the 19th of December 2012 at approximately 1135 hours Roland Periard entered the locker rooms at the John Rhodes Community Pool after bypassing staff. He went through the family and men’s change rooms and stole cash and jewelry which was located on him during his arrest on St. Mary’s River Drive at 3:25 p.m. after being identified by officers from the security surveillance footage.

A 16 year old male was arrested and charged with theft after shoplifting a necklace at sears.
