Two females to appear in bail court Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre and arrested a 53-year-old female for arson and fraud related offences.

Two females to appear in bail court

Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre and arrested a 53-year-old female for arson and fraud related offences. It is alleged that between July 3rd 2005 and December 13th 2011 the accused committed, counseled or assisted in the commission of the offence of arson. It is further alleged that during the time frame the accused committed fraud by collecting or attempting to collect insurance on properties that she owned. Gay Overland. Age 53, of no fixed address is charged with four counts of arson, three counts of fraud, one count of forgery and one count of counselling to commit arson.  

Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 27-year-old female on a warrant for failing to appear for court. It is alleged that the accused did not appear for court on May 31st 2010. Miranda Peunish, age 27, of 44 Eleventh St., Mobert, Ontario is charged with one count of failing to appear for court.

Male arrested for theft under $5,000

Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 22-year-old male for theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the accused attended at the Rome’s Independent Grocer’s Pharmacy, 44 Great Northern Rd. and stole prescription medication valued at $111.84. The accused was arrested by store security and turned over to city police officers. Riccardo Policicchio, age 22, of 1001 Second Line W. Apt # 17 is charged with one count of theft under $5,000. Mr. Policicchio is to appear in court on Jan. 30th 2012 at 9:00 am.

Male arrested for threatening

Yesterday afternoon members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 20-year-old male for threatening. It is alleged that the accused male attended the Ontario Works Office, 540 Albert St. E and threatened to kill one of the employees. Nathan Zacharie, age 20, of 864 Queen St. E. apt # 37 is charged with one count of threatening. Mr. Zacharie is to appear in court on Jan. 23rd 2012 at 9:00 am.

Female arrested for possession of a controlled substance

Early this morning members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested a 17-year-old female for possession of a controlled substance. It is alleged that the accused was in possession of a small amount of marihuana and several ecstasy pills. The accused is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and is to appear in court on Jan 24th 2012 at 9:30 am.

Break and enter

City police received one report of a break and enter yesterday. A residence in the 100 block of Willow Ave was entered and numerous items were reported stolen. The incident occurred between 5:50 pm and 10:30 pm.

Mischief

A vehicle window was damaged in the 100 block of Princeton Dr.
Windows were reported damaged at an apartment in the 100 block of Willow Ave and at a residence in the 100 block of Elgin St.

Theft

A laptop was reported stolen from a residence in the 200 block of Willow Ave.
Yesterday afternoon city police were called to the YMCA, at 235 McNabb St. regarding a theft of a wallet from a locker.
