Snow To Continue Today

The drifting and blowing snow is expected to continue today. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would again like to remind motorist to be careful. Allow yourself extra time to clean your vehicle off and ensure your windows are clear. With the blowing snow resulting in reduce visibility use your headlights and ensure your taillights are cleaned off. Yesterday between 8 am and 8 pm officers from the Police Service investigated 22 collisions. Fortunately no one was hurt in any of them.

No Parking on City Streets

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service along with the City Board of Works are again reminding motorist that there is no parking on city streets between midnight and 6 am. 4 vehicles were ticketed last night. Vehicles parked on the road also run the risk of being towed. If you vehicle is towed you will not only have the cost of the ticket, but you will also have the cost of the towing and storage bill. Motorists are also reminded not to park across the sidewalks. One vehicle was ticketed yesterday morning as it was blocking the City Board of Works as they were clearing the sidewalks.

Female Charged with Assault

One person will appear in bail court this morning. A 38-year old female was arrested just after 2 am this morning and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that just before 2 am this morning the accused assaulted her boyfriend by grabbing and pulling his hair. The incident occurred in an east end residence.

Search Warrant leads to Drug Charges

Yesterday afternoon officers from the Joint Forces Drug Unit, which consists of officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, the O.P.P Drug Enforcement Section, the R.C.M.P. and the O.P.P. North East Region, executed a search warrant at a residence on Goulais Avenue. Officers located 39 marihuana plants and 305 grams of cannabis marihuana. In addition a knife that is opened with centrifugal force, which is prohibited, was also located. The estimated street value of the narcotics is $45,100. 32-year old Gordon Glanville of 393 Goulais Avenue has been charged with one count of production of a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled or substance, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon. The accused will appear in court on March 12th.

City Police received reports of two break and enters in the last 24 hour period:

1) Yesterday morning just before 7 am Bay Dental Care reported a break and enter. A digital camera was taken.

2) A residence on Churchill Avenue reported a break and enter in which a Play Station 2 as well as a HP laptop was taken.
