Thursday Afternoon News A break and enter was reported at 10:00am this morning in the 200 block of Birch Street. Sometime between 8:00am and 10:00am someone forced open the side door and once inside stole jewelry.

A break and enter was reported at 10:00am this morning in the 200 block of Birch Street.  Sometime between 8:00am and 10:00am someone forced open the side door and once inside stole jewelry.

A second report was received of another daytime Break and Enter in the 100 block of Birch Street between 8:00am and 1:00pm.  The side door was forced open and jewelry was stolen.

Overnight someone entered a property in the 200 block of Bruce Street and stole a set Ontario License Plates #BBJP695.  If anyone sees these plates please contact police.

A motor vehicle collision occurred at 12:00 noon today at the intersection of Wellington Street East and Pilgrim Street involving a Chevrolet Equinox and a Honda car.  As a result one female passenger was transported to hospital by ambulance with non life threatening injuries.  Subsequently the female driver of the Chevrolet was charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with Fail to Yield to Traffic on a Through Highway.  Both vehicles were required to be towed from the scene due to extensive damage.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Services newly created Crime Suppression Unit has been tasked with addressing the increasing number of break and enters in the city’s core.   In the early hours of July 11, 2013, a collaborated effort between the Crime Suppression Unit and patrol officers led to the apprehension and arrest of two adult males during a break and enter in progress.  Officers observed two males exiting the rear of a residence in the 400 block of Albert St. west while in possession of property taken from the home.  The two males had also caused damage to the interior of the home while removing the property.  As a result 43 year old Winston Causley of 85 Pardee ave. was charged with Break Enter and Commit Theft under $5000 and Mischief under $5000.  Winston Causley was further charged with being in Possession of a Controlled Substance after Clonazepam pills were located on his person.  The second male 48 year old Ronald Masse of 39 Albert St. east was charged with Break Enter and Commit Theft under $5000 and Mischief under $5000.  A search of accused Ronald Masse led to an additional charge of Possession of Break and Enter Instruments.

Both men will be attending Bail Court this morning.

Unknown persons attempted to gain entry to a residence in the 100 block of Cathcart Street some time yesterday afternoon. No entry was gained, however damage to a rear porch door at the residence was reported.

A Break and Enter was reported in the 300 block of Northland Road yesterday. Unknown persons forced the front door of the residence between 1730 and 1800 hours. It is not believed that anything was taken in this incident.

On July 10th shortly before 11:00 pm Police Officers were called to a disturbance on John St. When Officers attended they found a 14 year old youth who was yelling and screaming.  Officers learned the young person had been drinking prior to their arrival. When the youth would not calm down, the young person was arrested for Breach of the Peace and lodged at the Police Services Building.

On July 10th at 6:00 pm Police Officers attended a home in the 100 block of Cathcart for a break and enter complaint. Officers learned thieves had unsuccessfully to enter the home. And shortly before 8:00 pm Police Officers attended a home in the 300 block of Northland Rd. where theives had broken in. Nothing appeared to have been taken in this incident.
