Robbery At Merlino's
Yesterday evening at approx. 6:00 PM City Police were called to Merlino’s general Store at 537 Douglas St for a Robbery. At that time a lone female entered the store looking to purchase a package of cigarettes. When the clerk turned to look at the display case the suspect pulled out a black handgun and demanded money. Suspect obtained a small amount of cash and fled from store. The suspect is described as:
Female Caucasian, in her early to mid 20's, 5’5” – 5’ 7” tall, thin build, long blond hair, pale complexion. She was wearing a black toque and a dark blue ski jacket with lighter blue sleeves. The jacket had the name “ SNOW JOB” on one sleeve. Anyone seeing this person is asked to call Crimestoppers or the Sault Ste Marie Police Investigative Services Unit.
Downtown Keeps Getting Hit By Car Vandals
The downtown core continues to be hit by thieves breaking into cars. Yesterday City Police took 16 reports of theft and mischief to vehicles. The majority of the incidents took place at the King St. parking lot where 13 cars were damaged and entered. In most cases the thieves stole small amounts of cash.
Cars were also damaged in the 100 block of Albion St., the 100 block of Dennis St. and the 200 block of Queen St.E.
Vehicle Break Ins At Group Health Centre
At approx. 1:50 PM yesterday afternoon City Police were called, by security at the Group Health Centre, 240 McNabb St., to attended regarding 4 males breaking into cars in the parking lot. Two vehicles were reported broken into. The suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival. Anyone that was at the Group Health Centre yesterday afternoon and recalls seeing any suspicious males loitering in the parking lot is asked to call the Sault Ste Marie Police Investigative Services Unit.
Break And Enter
City Police report one break and enter in the past 24 hours. A residential apartment in the 200 block of Wellington St.E. was entered by forcing the front door. Electronic equipment and other household items were stolen.
Man Arrested For Breach Of A Recognizance Order
Yesterday afternoon at approx. 3:50 PM City Police investigated a 37-year-old male in regards to a Breach of a Recognizance Order. Later investigation led to several charges being laid against the male.
It is alleged that the accused did between November 1st 2005 and March 15th 2006 commit 2 counts of Assault, 1 count of Sexual Assault, 2 counts of Threatening Death, 5 counts of Breach of Probation and, 4 counts Breach of Recognizance Orders. The victim and the accused knew one another prior to these offences taking place. The victims did not require medical attention for her injuries as a result of the assaults. The accused will be appearing in Bail Court today at 10:00AM.
Man Aressted For Stealing Phone
At approx. 7:30 PM yesterday evening City Police arrested 42 year old Gerald Clement, of 167 March St. It is alleged that Mr. Clement attended the address of an ex-girlfriend and while at this location he stole a telephone from her. At the time of this offence the accused was on Probation with conditions to not molest, harass or annoy the victim and also to stay away from her residence. The accused is charged 3 counts of Breach of Probation and 1 count of Theft Under $ 5,000.00 he will be in Bail court today at 10:00 AM.
