Assault Charges
30-year old Melissa Martin of 274 Bainbridge St will appear in bail court this morning. It is alleged that yesterday just before 12 noon the accused assaulted a female known to her by kicking and pushing the victim. When City Police attended in the downtown area for the altercation, it is alleged that the accused resisted arrest by refusing to place her hands behind her back to be handcuffed. It is further alleged that the accused also assaulted the police officers by kicking them. The accused has been charged with one count of assault, one count of resist arrest and one count of assault police.
51-year old Mario Laudadio of 8 East Braemer Bay was arrested and charged yesterday with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused punched a male and pushed him around. The two males are known to each other. The incident occurred on the 10th of May in the City’s west end. The accused will appear in court on June 12th.
Theft
37-year old Mark Reed of 29 Pentagon Boulevard was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that the accused attended at Sears in the Station Mall and left the store with a cordless drill valued at just under $400. The accused was apprehended by store security. The accused was on probation at the time with conditions to keep the peace and be good. The accused will appear in court on June 19th.
Mischief
25-year old John MacLean of 182 Dennis Street was charged yesterday with one count of mischief. It is alleged that on the 17th of April the accused was riding a bicycle on the sidewalk on Wellington Street East riding against the direction of the traffic. It is alleged that a male driver of a pickup truck attempted to turn right and the accused became irate at the driver and punched the truck’s window and door panel leaving 3 dents. The accused will appear in court on June 19th.
Motor Vehicle Collision
Shortly after 1:30 pm yesterday afternoon officers from Patrol Services and Traffic Services and personnel from the Sault Fire Services attended at the intersection of East Street and Bay Street for a motor vehicle collision involving 2 cars. A car operated by 68-year old Virginia Gulyas of 27 Euclid Toad was traveling eastbound on Bay Street. It is alleged that a car operated by 28-year old Kyle Campbell of Rupert Acres was traveling southbound on East Street and failed to stop for the red light. The two vehicles collided in the intersection. Mrs. Gulyas and an adult male passenger from her vehicle were taken to Sault Area Hospital by ambulance for treatment on non-life threatening injuries. The Campbell vehicle was severely damaged; the Gulyas vehicle received moderate damages. Mr. Campbell has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of red light-fail to stop.
