5 People Will Appear in Bail Court Today:
A 22-year old female was arrested just before midnight last night. City Police attended at a west end address for a domestic dispute. It is alleged that the female threw a glass of water at her common law boyfriend and struck him in the face with a phone. It is further alleged that the accused also punched the victim in the chest a number of times. The accused has been charged with one count of assault and one count of assault with a weapon. The male did not require any medical treatment at the time of the incident.
An 18-year old male was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of assault and 3 counts of breach of a release order. It is alleged that on the 9th of November the accused assaulted a teenaged family member by slapping the victim in the face. At the time of the offence the accused was on a release order with conditions. The victim did not require any medical treatment at the time of the incident. The incident occurred outside on a street in the central part of town. The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.
39-year old Charles Archibald of 304-70 East Street was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of failing to appear for fingerprints. A warrant was issued for the accused when did not show up at the City Police Station on October 25th, which was his print date.
25-year old Kevin Bennett of no fixed address attended at the City Police Station yesterday afternoon and turned himself in on a number of outstanding warrants. The accused will appear in court on two count of possession of property obtained by crime, 6 counts of fail to appear in court or fail to appear for prints. The offences stem from December of 2004 to October of this year.
A 16-year old youth was arrested just after 11:30 pm last night. The accused was located in the downtown area by patrol officers. The youth was wanted for a break and enter and breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 22nd of September the accused entered a home in the 100 block of Shelby Road. During the break and enter a Play Station 2, 4 controllers, a game, and some cigarettes were taken. When officers arrested the accused they noted that the youth was under the influence of alcohol. The youth was on conditions of a release order and a probation order with conditions not to consume alcohol and to keep the peace and be good. Officers also learned that the accused was wanted on a number of outstanding warrants. Warrants stems from between December 11th of 2004 and November 8th of this year. The accused will appear in court on 5 counts of breach of probation, one count of break and enter and commit an offence, three counts of theft under $5,000, one count of trespassing by night, one count of fail to appear in court, one count of mischief under $5,000, two counts of breach of release orders, and three counts of fail to appear for court or prints.
Breach of Probation
A 29-year old male was arrested and charged with one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that between October 15th and November 15th of this year the accused contacted his ex-girlfriend by e-mail. The accused was on a probation order not to communicate with the female. The accused will appear in court on January 9th 2006.
Attempted Robbery
Just after 9 pm last night City Police attended at the Highway Variety Store located at 883 Trunk Road for an attempt robbery. It is alleged that 2 youths between 14 and 15 years old entered the store. The youths had small kitchen style knives but did not point them at the clerk. The youths argued with the clerk but fled the store empty handed. The youths are both described as being skinny, between 5’6” tall and 5’7” tall, both wore navy hoodies and one had a black mask with grey on it. It is believed that one youth wore a black balaclava. There is no further description of the suspects. The youths fled the store and ran across Trunk Road and across the train tracks. City Police were assisted by the OPP and the Anishinabek Police in their search for the suspects but were unsuccessful in locating the youths. Break and Enters
City Police received two reports of break and enters yesterday. Sometime between 6 pm on the 15th of November and 7:30 am on the 16th of November thieves broke into a home in the 300 block of Henry Street. Thieves made off with a TV, a DVD and a VCR. Yesterday between 1 pm and 3:30 pm thieves entered a home in the 300 block of Patrick Street and stole some jewellery and an undisclosed amount of money.
Motor Vehicle Collision
Yesterday morning at 8:45 am City Police attended at the intersection of MacDonald Avenue and Lake Street for a motor vehicle collision, which sent 4 persons to the hospital with injuries. A van operated by 40-year old Deborah Fowler-Roy of 150 Pleasant Drive was traveling southbound on Lake Street. A car operated by 42-year old Deborah Irwin of 50 Jean Street was traveling westbound on MacDonald Avenue and allegedly proceeded into the intersection and struck the Fowler-Roy van. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage. Both drivers and a passenger from each vehicle were taken to the Sault Area Hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Both passengers were persons under 18 years of age. Deborah Irwin has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of fail to yield to traffic on a through highway.
Driver Charged for Failure to Stop for a Red Light
Just after 2 pm yesterday afternoon City Police attended at the intersection of Queen Street East and Spring Street for a motor vehicle collision with injuries. A pickup truck operated by 51-year old Douglas Porter of 33 Euclid Road was traveling westbound on Queen Street East. A car operated by 47-year old Cynthia Petersen of 116 Woodward Avenue was traveling northbound on Spring Street. It is alleged that the Porter vehicle failed to stop for the red light and collided with the Petersen vehicle. Both vehicles received moderate damage. City Police took 52-year old Robert Colynuck of 116 Woodward, who was a passenger in the Petersen vehicle, to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Mr. Porter has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of red light-fail to stop.
