Evening update On October 24, 2013 at 4 a.m., Police Officers were called to a motor vehicle collision on Goulais Ave. Police learned that a truck allegedly driven by McGonegal had struck a parked vehicle.

On October 24, 2013 at 4 a.m., Police Officers were called to a motor vehicle collision on Goulais Ave. Police learned that a truck allegedly driven by McGonegal had struck a parked vehicle. Officers subsequently arrested and charged Nathan McGonegal, age 21 of 72 Prentice Ave., with impaired driving and driving over. 08. He will appear in court on November 25.

On October 24, 2013 at 12:52 p.m., Police Officers were called to the IDA Drug Mart in Station Mall for a shoplifting complaint. Officers arrested and charged Jodey Whitehead, age 44 of 108 Cambridge Place, with two counts of theft and possession of stolen property under $5,000. Whitehead will appear in court on November 25.

Morning news

On October 23, 2013 a complaint of a domestic assault was received by police regarding an alleged incident that occurred between April 1, 2011 and April 30, 2011. The accused, age 35, allegedly assaulted the victim by pulling the victim’s hair and dragging the victim off of the bed and across the bedroom. The accused was arrested on October 23, 2013 for assault and will appear in bail court on October 24, 2013 at 10 a.m.

On October 23, 2013 the accused, age 15, was observed outside of his residence at approximately 11:50 p.m. The accused is on court ordered conditions to be in his residence on nights before school between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. and keep the peace and be of good behaviour. The accused is also on the same conditions on probation under the Education Act to be in residence between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. on school nights. The accused is charged with breach of probation X 2 under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and breach of probation under the Education Act (which falls under the Provincial Offences Act).  The accused will appear in bail court on October 24, 2013 at 10 a.m.

On October 24, 2013 at approximately 12:07a.m. Sault Police while patrolling the area of Albert Street West observed the accused in a vehicle beside them. The accused, age 42, is known to police and a check of the individual was done and it was found that there was an outstanding warrant for a domestic matter. The accused was arrested for assault and breach of a court ordered condition not communicate with the victim. It alleged that the accused attended at the residence of the victim on October 21, 2013 and assaulted the victim by shoving the victim who is 5 months pregnant and then grabbing the victim by the throat. The accused will appear in court on October 24, 2013 at 10 a.m.

Early last evening a homeowner on Northern Avenue reported the theft from a vehicle. Items taken include a wallet, a cell phone, a two way radio and change.

Yesterday afternoon a homeowner on Market Street reported a break in that had occurred on the 22nd of October in the morning hours. Items taken include an X-box, a controller, HDMI cable, games and movies. An undisclosed amount of money was taken as well as a watch.   

Yesterday between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. City Police received 10 calls of motor vehicle collisions. The falling snow and wet roads were a contributing factor. However drivers must remember to adjust their driving to the road conditions. With near freezing temperature wet roads will often be slick and slippery. Slow down and give yourself a bit of extra distance for stopping.
