Need Public Assistance

The Sault Ste. Marie City Police are currently investigating a robbery. At 1 pm today a lone male entered the HSBC bank located at 601 Queen Street East. The male produced a note and demanded money from a teller. No weapon was observed but there was an indication in the note that a weapon may be involved. The male fled the scene on foot headed southbound on Brock Street.
The male is described as a male with dark skin, possibly native, over 6’ tall, medium build, wearing a hip length black leather jacket, a black hood sweatshirt with a design on the front and wearing wire rimmed dark tinted sunglasses. The suspect’s face is described as pockmarked and he has a large mouth and nose.
It is unknown at this time if the suspect obtained any money.

Male Charged with Mischief

A 35-year old male will appear in bail court this morning. It is alleged that the male attended at his girlfriend’s downtown residence and during the course of the evening the two of them got into a verbal argument. It is alleged that the accused kicked a coffee table and the girlfriend asked him to leave the residence. It is alleged that as the male left the residence he punched the front window of the residence causing it to break. During the course of the investigation officers learned that the accused had actually been living with the victim for the last two weeks and had failed to notify his change of address as per a release document. The accused has been charged with one count of mischief and one count of breach of a release order.

Motor Vehicle Collision

Around 1 am this morning officers attended on Henrietta at near Franklin Street for a motor vehicle collision. It is alleged that 19-year old Betina Cartner of 119 Wallace Terrace was traveling westbound on Henrietta Street in a car when she struck a pickup truck that was parked on the north side of the street. The Cartner vehicle received severe damage and the pickup truck received moderate damage. Ms. Cartner was treated by paramedics who attended at the scene but did not require hospital care. Ms. Cartner has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with one count of consume over the legal limit and one count of impaired driving. She will appear in court on November 14th.

Male Charged with Assault

A 58-year old male was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of assault in relation to a domestic situation. It is alleged that the accused and the victim, who is his estranged wife, attended at a downtown residence together. It is alleged that they got into an argument, which resulted in the accused allegedly grabbing the female around the neck and throwing her to the ground. Police were subsequently called. The accused has been charged with one count of assault and will appear in court on the 9th of November.


Female Assaults Another Female

38-year old Lee-Ann Hudebine of 405-70 East Street was arrested and charged last night with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused followed a female known to her into a downtown restaurant and punched the victim in the head. The victim did not require any medical treatment. The accused will appear in court on November 14th.

Break and Enter

Yesterday afternoon City Police attended at a downtown automotive place for a report of a theft. An owner had left their recreation vehicle with the business for some repair work when thieves entered the vehicle sometime overnight on the 4th and 5th of October. Thieves made off with over $1,000 in tools, a 13” dash mounted TV and a set of booster cables. Bear Sighting

Yesterday just before noon hour a large bear was send running into the bush area east of the Davey Home. Just a reminder to not leave any food sources out for the bears.
