St. John’s United Church on John Street reported mischief. Vandals spray painted graffiti on the outside walls.

At 3:10 p.m., The Sault Ste. Marie Police and Fire Services responded to a report of an airplane crashing into the St. Marys River in the area of the sewage treatment plant. The sole occupant of the aircraft was unharmed and was able to exit the aircraft. He was recovered from the water by an area resident. Transport Canada was notified of the incident. There are no further details available at this time.

Appeal for Witnesses from Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

Officers from Traffic Services are continuing to investigate the fatality that occurred on Saturday August 31st on McNabb Street at Algoma Avenue shortly after 7 pm.
 
Investigators are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the cyclist in the hours preceding the collision.  The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is releasing a photo of Christa (Lukenda) Michaud.  At the time of the collision the victim was wearing shorts and a black tank top which are similar to the clothing she is wearing in the attached photo.  She was also wearing black and pink flip flops, sunglasses and a grey backpack.

Anyone who may have seen the victim in the hours preceding the collision is asked to contact Traffic Services at 705-949-6300 extension 383.

Update to MVC between Cyclist and Vehicle

On the 4th of September shortly before 2 pm officers from Traffic Services and Patrol Services attended at Great Northern Road near Pim Street for a collision involving a cyclist and a vehicle.

A cyclist was travelling southbound on the sidewalk on Great Northern Road.  A pickup truck was also traveling southbound on Great Northern Road and turned into the parking lot of a local business. The cyclist and the truck collided. 

The cyclist was taken to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The 17-year old cyclist was charged under the City Bylaw for person over the age of 10 years ride bicycle on a sidewalk.

The driver of the pickup truck, 49-year old Dan Schmidt of 1014 Wallace Terrace has been charged under the Highway Traffic of Ontario with one count of drive motor vehicle no licence.

Arrests:

On September 5, 2013 at approximately 1:50am a vehicle was located at John and Bryne Avenue.  The vehicle was stopped with a lone male occupant behind the wheel.  Police found the occupant to be in an intoxicated condition.  The accused Herman Soloman Swanson age 24 of 53 Vera Avenue was arrested for having care and control of a motor vehicle.  The accused was taken to the station and further charged with consuming over the legal limit.  The accused will appear in court on October 21, 2013 at 9:00am.

On September 5, 2013 a male age 41 was in the area of John Street and Bryne Avenue.  A false name was given to police but one officer had dealings with the individual in the past.  A check was done and it was found that the accused had outstanding warrants involving several charges for domestic related matters that dated back to April of this year.  The accused will appear in bail court on September 5, 2013 at 10:00am
