Trio cuffed after police find two big guns in vehicle

Three people have been charged after a traffic stop on March 6, 2024.

An afternoon traffic stop has led to weapons charges against three individuals.

At around 3:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Sault Police pulled over a vehicle on Andrew Street that had not come to a complete stop at a stop sign.

While speaking with the occupants, police say officers saw drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

During a subsequent search, officers found a rifle and a shotgun that had its serial number tampered with. The three occupants of the vehicle were arrested.

Bernie Nadon, 45, is charged with:

  • unauthorized possession of firearm (x2)
  • possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order (x10)
  • possession of firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with
  • unauthorized possession in motor vehicle (x2)
  • knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm (x2)
  • careless storage of firearm (x2)
  • failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court (x2)

Chantelle Bonenfant, 41, is charged with:

  • unauthorized possession of firearm (x2)
  • possession of firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with
  • unauthorized possession in motor vehicle (x2)
  • knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm (x2)
  • careless storage of firearm (x2)

Billie-Jo Marin, 45, is charged with:

  • unauthorized possession of firearm (x2)
  • possession of firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with
  • unauthorized possession in motor vehicle (x2)
  • knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm (x2)
  • careless storage of firearm (x2)

All three were held in custody pending bail hearings.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and all suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
