Three people have been charged with break and enter as well as possession of property obtained by crime after police pulled over a vehicle early Thursday morning.

Police say they responded to a report of a break and enter in progress on Holden Street and saw two people walking from the area carrying a spool of wire and a speaker and placed it in the back of a truck.

Police stopped the vehicle and arrested the three occupants following an investigation.

Following is a full release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service:

On Jan. 6, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged 39-year-old Heidi Barry, 42-year-old Shaun Nelson and 34-year-old Derek Woods with break and enter.

Around 4 a.m. officers responded to reports of a break and enter in progress in the 0-100 block of Holden Street. Upon arrival, officers observed two people walking from the Holden Street area towards St. Patrick Street carrying a spool of wire and a speaker and placing it in the back of a pickup truck.

Officers conducted a traffic stop and identified Mr. Woods as the driver, and Ms. Barry and Mr. Nelson as the passengers.

During the investigation officers developed grounds to believe the three were involved in a break and enter and they were arrested.

A subsequent search of the area found the wire and speaker reported stolen from the residence. Ms. Barry was found to be in possession of a stun gun, a flick knife, brass knuckles and dog spray. Officers seized the pickup truck as it was used in the commission of an offence.

Ms. Barry is charged with:

  • Break and enter
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon x4

She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on March 14, 2022.

Further investigation determined Mr. Nelson was wanted on warrants for failing to appear in court. He is charged with:

  • Break and enter
  • Possession of property obtained by crime

He was held for bail court.

Mr. Woods is charged with:

  • Break and enter
  • Possession of property obtained by crime

He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on March 14, 2022.
