Two persons will appear in bail court this morning:
1) Last evening just before 9 pm citizens came to the aid of officers while they were arresting a 44-year old male. It is alleged that the male and his girlfriend got into a verbal argument in a residence in the City’s west end. The argument escalated and it is alleged that the accused slapped the victim in the face, burnt her with a lit cigarette on her torso area and also hit her in the face with a burning piece of cardboard. The victim did not require medical treatment at the time of the incident. When officers attended at the address and attempted to arrest the accused it is alleged that the accused pulled away from the officers. After a short foot pursuit the accused was taken into custody and further fought with the officers. Neighbours in the area assisted the officers during the struggle with the male. The male has been charged with one count of assault with two counts of assault with a weapon, one count of resist arrest and one count of assault police.
2) A 29-year old female was arrested just before 11 pm last night and charged with one count of aggravated assault. The accused and her common-law boyfriend got into an argument in their downtown residence and police were called. The accused allegedly broke a beer bottle and slashed the victim in the arm area, resulting in non-life threatening injuries. The victim was taken to the Sault Area Hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.
Resisting Arrest & Assault of Police
A 50-year old male was arrested just after 5 pm yesterday and charged with one count of resist arrest and one count of assault police. Officers attended at a west end address regarding a domestic dispute. It is alleged that the accused was not allowing family members to leave the residence. It is alleged that while speaking to an officer the accused became agitated and assaulted the officer by grabbing him by his shirt. The shirt was ripped and the officer received non-life threatening injuries. It is alleged that the accused continued to resist and fight the officer who was now aided by other officers who had arrived. After a brief struggle the accused was taken into custody. He will appear in court on September 25th.
Assault Charges
On the 27th of August officers received a complaint from a male victim who advised that three persons had assaulted him. It is alleged that in the early morning hours the male was punched several times by the three individuals while they were all in a residence together after an argument. Officers from Patrol Services have completed their investigation and arrested the individuals. All three suspects were charged with one count each of assault causing bodily harm and all will appear in court on October 2nd. Charged are:
1) 18-year old Rene Guindon of 1-223 Pilgrim Street
2) 21-year old Donna Purvis of 1-223 Pilgrim Street
3) 21-year old Sandra Scott of 1-223 Pilgrim Street
Break & Enters
Yesterday afternoon City Police received a report of a break and enter to Nepsco, which is located on Black Road. Sometime over the weekend the outdoor compound was entered. It is unknown at this time if anything was taken.
Last evening just after 11 pm City Police attended at St. Pius School on Oryme Avenue after a neighbour reported youths hanging around the school. Officers located a broken window but no entry was gained.
Yesterday morning City Police received a report of an office being entered at St. Mary’s Paper on Huron Street. A case, a digital camera and a HP Photosmart with a docking station was taken.
Two reports of vehicles being entered were received yesterday. Wallets were taken from both vehicles. One theft occurred on Breton Road and the other one was in the 300 block of Breton Road. Citizens are reminded not to leave valuables in their vehicles and to ensure that vehicles are locked. A number of thefts involve vehicles that were left unlocked.

Collision of a Pick up Truck & Motorcycle
Shortly after 12 noon yesterday officers from Patrol Services attended at the intersection of Trunk Road and Boundary Road for a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a pick up truck. A 59-year old male from Corbeil, Ontario was traveling westbound on Trunk Road in a pickup truck approaching Boundary Road. A motorcycle, operated by a 54-year old male from Calgary, Alberta, was also traveling westbound on Trunk Road and was behind the pickup truck. The pickup truck stopped suddenly for a vehicle in front of him. The driver of the motorcycle was allegedly looking at an overhead sign and did not see that the pickup truck had stopped. As a result the motorcycle ran into the back of the pick up. The driver of the motorcycle was taken to the Sault Area Hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Both vehicles sustained light damage. The driver of the motorcycle has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of follow to close.
