On July 29 a male entered a department store on Great Northern Rd. selected electronics and exited the store making no attempt to pay for the merchandise. The male was apprehended by store security and was turned over to police.

The male was apprehended by store security and was turned over to police. 21-year-old Bradley Gannon was charged by patrol officers with theft under $5,000.

On July 28 a male entered a sporting goods store in the Station Mall and attempted to leave the store without paying for a baseball hat. He returned the hat but continued to shop, entering a change room and ripping tags off of an Addidas hoodie. Mall security was called and the male fled the store and after a brief foot chase, two security officers apprehended the male. The accused, however, became assaultive and began kicking and punching the security officers and eventually escaped to a residence in the 700 block of Wellington Street East where he was later arrested by city police. Once at the station, after getting out of the rear seat of the police cruiser, the accused decided to run again, this time out into Second Line. He was apprehended again after a short foot pursuit and brought back to the station to be booked in. 23-year-old Jordan Paim of Dacey Road has been charged with 2 counts of assault, theft under $5000, escape custody and one count of breaching a condition of his probation order which required him to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He will be appearing in Bail Court later this morning.

The city police continue to receive calls 24 hours a day regarding thefts from vehicles. By following some simple tips and practices these thefts would be reduced. Remember to lock doors and keep windows and sunroofs completely closed. Keep the interior of your vehicle clean and tidy and try not to leave valuables in plain sight. Thieves target GPS units, cell phones, loose change, wallets, purses, credit cards and any other types of packages. Bring these items with you or lock them up in the trunk or glove box if you can.
