Appeal for Witnesses to an Assault

Officers from the Investigation Services Section of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are currently investigating an assault that took place in the early morning hours of September 4th.

At approximately 5:45 am the male victim was walking southbound on Pim Street when an object from a passing vehicle was thrown at him. The victim was struck in the face and required medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries.  The only description of the vehicle is that it was a red car, possibly a Pontiac.  It is believed that several males were in the vehicle.

Additional Charge for Accused in Motor Vehicle Fatality on August 31st, 2013

Officers from Traffic Services are continuing to work on the fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in the evening hours on August 31st on McNabb Street near Algoma Avenue.  

On the 31st of August 54-year old Michael Casselman of 111 MacDonald Avenue was charged with one count of operate motor vehicle-exceed the legal limit causing death. 

As a result of the ongoing investigation Mr. Casselman has been charged with an additional count of impaired driving cause death.

Mr. Casselman is in bail court on the 10th of September 2013 in relation to these two charges.

Two Break and Enters Reported

Yesterday afternoon a homeowner in the 100 block of Wellington Street East reported that their shed had been broken into over the last few weeks.  Items taken include a lawn mower and a black truck box containing miscellaneous tools.

Yesterday afternoon between 2:30 pm and 4 pm a home in the 100 block of St. George’s Avenue West was broken into.  Jewellery was taken.
