Just a Reminder
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists to pay extra attention today. Students from the Algoma District School Board are heading to class today. With all of the excitement of seeing friends again some children may not be paying attention when crossing the road. Keep an eye out for them and remember to stop for the school bus when their sign is out and the red lights are flashing.
A number of persons will appear in bail court and they include:
40-year old David Carrie of no fixed abode will appear in bail court. He has been charged with 6 counts of breaching his Judicial Restraining Order (CC 810.2). Carrie was arrested on the 2nd of September and taken into custody without incident with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police. It is alleged that the accused breached his conditions by failing to notify a change of address, failing to report to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service on Friday September 1st, had consumed an alcoholic beverage, failed to notify the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service that he was leaving the City Limits and failed to have a copy of his release document with him.
On the 2nd of September it is alleged that 3 males assaulted another male known to them by hitting him with a broomstick, a mop and cleaning fluid. The victim required medical treatment for his non-life threatening injuries. Last evening the following males were arrested and charged:
a. 21-year old Trevor Seaton of no fixed address was charged with one count of assault and one count of assault with a weapon,
b. 23-year old James Westover of no fixed address was charged with one count of assault with a weapon,
c. 22-year old Michael Bjornaa of no fixed address was charged with two counts of assault.
A 35-year old male was arrested and charged with one count of assault on the 3rd of September. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his ex-girlfriend by pushing her against a wall and by throwing a clock radio at her as well. The victim received non-life threatening injuries but did not require medical treatment. The incident occurred in the City’s downtown area.
A 40-year old male was arrested on the 2nd of September around 5 am and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his girlfriend by pulling her hair and putting his hands around her neck. The male fled the west end residence where the assault occurred but was taken into custody a short time after the assault.
A 42-year old male was arrested on the 1st of September just before midnight and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his common-law wife at a residence in the City’s west end. It is alleged that the accused grabbed the victim by the neck and threw her to the ground twice. The accused was arrested shortly after the assault.
Long Weekend R.I.D.E Program
The R.I.D.E. program was out over the long weekend. Between the 2nd of September at 10 pm and the 3rd of September at 3 am officers stopped and checked 230 vehicles, issued five 12-hour suspensions, conducted 8 roadside tests, completed 3 breath tests, issued two 90-day suspensions and arrested two persons for impaired driving:
a) 21-year old Elizabeth Premo of Windsor, Ontario was observed by officers allegedly going through a red light at the intersection of Great Northern Road and Willoughby Street at 1:20 am. She was stopped as she was traveling southbound on Great Northern Road. She has been charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. She will appear in court on October 16th.
b) 53-year old Donald Filion of 24 Lansdowne Avenue was stopped on Grand Boulevard at a R.I.D.E. checkpoint and displayed signs of impairment. He was subsequently charged with one count of consume over the legal limit. He will appear in court on October 16th.
Assult & Threatening Bodily Harm
A 23-year old female was arrested on the 1st of September and charged with one count of assault and one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm. It is alleged that on the 30th of August the accused attended at a downtown residence and assaulted her ex-boyfriend by punching him the face several time. It is further alleged that the accused also threatened to harm the ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend. The accused will appear in court on October 2nd.
Break & Enter at Pisa Pizza
22-year old Jeanna Simmons of 1-676 Second Line West was arrested and charged with one count of break and enter and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. It is alleged that on the 22nd of August the accused broke into Pisa Pizza located on Second Line West and stole an undisclosed amount of money. On the 1st of September officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service executed a search warrant at the residence of the accused and during the search also located a small amount of crack cocaine. The accused will appear in court on October 2nd.
City Police received a number of reports of break and enters over the weekend:
1) A residence on Spruce Street was entered between 5 pm on September 1st and 8 pm on the 2nd of September. Items taken include jewellery, movies, a game cube and a walkie-talkie.
2) Sometime overnight between the 2nd and 3rd of September thieves broke into a residence in the 700 block of Wallace Terrace and stole an undisclosed amount of money.
3) A shed in the 100 block of Wellington Street West was entered overnight between the 2nd and 3rd of September and some meat was taken from a freezer.
4) A shed on Hugill Street was entered sometime in August and a dirt bike and a case of beer were taken.
5) A residence on MacDonald Avenue was entered between 8 am and 8 pm on the 4th of September. Some money and some medications were taken.
Theft of Patio Furniture
Just after 5a m on the 4th of September City Police received call regarding a theft of patio furniture. A homeowner on Connaught Avenue called to report that two persons were in their backyard and were trying to remove their patio furniture. The thieves stole a small metal end table with a glass top before they fled the area. The suspects were seen getting into a small black 4-door car. The male is described as being in his 20’s with a buzzed head and the female about 5’4” tall with blonde hair in a ponytail.
