Two break-ins were reported to City Police today which occurred sometime overnight.

The first occurred in the Vesta Place, Creekside Lane area of town. Culprits entered the residence and stole an HP Laptop computer.

The second occurred in the Ohio Drive area where thieves broke into a garage and stole three motocross helmets.

Scam alert

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service would like to warn the public to be on alert with regards to the “Emergency Scam” after receiving two recent complaints on the 19th November.

In this type of scam a grandparent receives a call from a person claiming to be a grandchild in trouble similar to an accident or being in jail and needing bail money. Victims don’t verify the story until after the money has been sent.

This scam has been around for many years and police are reminding the public to always verify the information prior to sending any money. The callers will attempt to use urgency, fear and the need for secrecy to prey on vulnerable persons.
