Two people shot in Wellington East altercation: police

One person is in custody

An arrest was made after officers responded to a shooting in the 1500 block of Wellington Street East this afternoon and found two people suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victims were transported to hospital, their condition unknown at this time.

"We don't have a status at this time in terms of seriousness of injuries," said police spokesperson Lincoln Louttit in a phone interview.

Police say the accused and the victims are known to each other.

One person was arrested and remains in police custody and the investigation is ongoing.

Wellington Street East was still blocked off east of Hugill Street as of 5 p.m. Monday, with a forensic van on the scene.

"The significant presence that initially responded to the call is no longer there, they are more so holding the scene" said Louttit.

Police ordered the hold and secure of area schools, said Louttit.

"Just because of the proximity and the nature of the scene we were just trying to be as cautious as possible," he said.

Police urge anyone with information, or dashcam or security footage to contact Detective Sergeant Alison Campbell at 705-949-6300 ext. 288.
