Unconscious driver complaint leads to drug, weapons charges

Police officers found a man slumped over the wheel of a running vehicle on Friday morning on Princess Crescent.

The 34-year-old was arrested and charged after drugs believed to be cocaine and methamphetamine, and bear mace were found during a search.

Full text of a Sault Ste. Marie Police Service news release follows:

On May 27, 2022, officers with Patrol Services charged 34-year-old Cody Marshall with weapon offences.

Around 11:30 a.m., officers attended the 100 block of Princess Crescent for an unresponsive man in a running vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found the driver, later identified as the accused, slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle. While officers and EMS were attending to him, officers observed a can of mace in the driver’s side door. Further investigation revealed he is prohibited from possessing any type of weapon and he was arrested.

A subsequent search found him to be in possession of approximately 11 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine and three grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine.

He is charged with:
    •    Unauthorized possession of a weapon x3
    •    Possession of a controlled substance x2
    •    Possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order x6

He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on July 25, 2022.
