Vehicle gets stuck in ditch, driver faces impaired charges

On Jan. 5, 2018, officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 54-year-old Joanne Hanka of Brule Road for impaired driving. 

It is alleged that at 8 p.m., the accused was operating a motor vehicle on Fourth Line just west of Peoples Road. The vehicle left the roadway and became stuck in a ditch. Officers located the accused at the scene and determined that her ability to operate the motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.

She was taken into custody and charged with one count of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and one count of operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level that was over the legal limit. She will appear in court on Feb. 12, 2018.
