Police presence at old Gore Street bakery collision - Two taken to hospital (9 photos, 2nd update)

Officers are still holding a scene on Wellington Street East - one in custody

Second Update:
Lincoln Louttit, the communications manager with city police, has confirmed two people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and one is in custody following this morning's incident.

Officers are still holding a scene on Wellington Street East.

First Update:
Wellington Street East is still closed between Bruce Street and Dennis Street and the public is urged to avoid the area at this time.

Four police cruisers were on the scene as an investigation tied to this morning’s car accident at the bakery got underway.

The ballistic armoured tactical transport (BATT) arrived at the scene shortly after 10:30 a.m.

Officers have their weapons drawn as they actively investigate the area.

Original story:
Emergency services were called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash on the corner of Gore Street and Manilla Terrace around 8:30 this morning.

The car appeared to have driven over a sidewalk and into the entrance way of the old Toni’s Cakery, which is soon to reopen as the new location of Thyne's Family Bakery.

The front end of the vehicle was severely damaged, and pieces of brick from the building were spread out across the scene.

An officer on scene said a police dog was on its way to aid with the investigation.

Gore St. has been blocked off on both ends as police continue to examine the area.

Wellington street east is also closed off starting at Dennis Street.

Police confirmed that the second street closure had something to do with the accident, but would not provide details as to why the closure was necessary.

No injuries have been reported at this time.
