Victim seriously injured in Sunday assault

A suspect is facing several charges, including aggravated assault

A suspect is facing several charges in an early Sunday afternoon assault.

Sault Ste. Marie Police were on patrol in the 400 block of Queen Street West at around 1 p.m., when they spotted a person lying on the ground with visible injuries.

Multiple witnesses pointed out a person nearby they say was involved in the incident.

Police were told the suspect struck the victim multiple times, both with their hands and piece of wood.

They said the suspect also took the victim’s phone and verbally threatened their life.

The victim has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Brandon Daigle, 31, has been charged with:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Uttering threats
  • Failure to comply with judicial release order
  • Failure to comply with probation order

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
