Victim threatened with knife during assault incident: Police

Police have charged Johnathan Campbell following an assault incident that occurred at a Great Northern Road business yesterday evening.

A news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service alleges that the 39-year-old threatened a victim with a knife.

The accused was found to be in possession of a knife and suspected fentanyl at the time of his arrest, police say.

On Dec. 13, 2021, officers with Patrol Services charged 39-year-old Johnathan Campbell with assault with a weapon.

Around 9 p.m. officers responded to a call of an altercation inside a business in the 0-100 block of Great Northern Road. Upon attending, officers were approached by a victim saying they were knocked to the ground by a man who pointed a knife at them.

A subsequent investigation located the accused, matching the description provided, and he was arrested. A subsequent search of the accused found him to be in possession of a knife and approximately 2.20 grams of a substance believed to be fentanyl.

He is charged with:
    •    assault with a weapon
    •    possession of a controlled substance

He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 14, 2022.
