VIDEO: Employee assaulted during theft incident, says Crime Stoppers

Theft took place at a Great Northern Road retail location in January

Police hope to identify a suspect in relation to an incident of theft that occurred at a Great Norther Road retail location on Jan. 7.

A news release issued today by Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District reports that an unidentified man assaulted an employee before fleeing the scene with a basket of merchandise.

Full text of the Crime Stoppers release follows:

Crime Stoppers and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are requesting your assistance in identifying a suspect involved in an incident of theft.

On Jan. 7, 2021 around 10:50 p.m., an unknown male entered a store in the 0-100 block of Great Northern Road. It is alleged that the male selected perfume, earbuds, and various other items. Before leaving the store, the male asked an employee to show him speakers that were behind the counter. [It is alleged that] the male attempted to steal the speakers as well. The employee was assaulted during an altercation with the male while he was exiting the store. The speakers were recovered but the male left the store with a basket of other items.

The unknown male was described as being early 30s, short dark hair, wearing black pants, yellow running shoes, a grey jacket, and a black t-shirt with an emblem.
