VIDEO: Some road safety tips from Sault police

This week is Crime Prevention Week

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is recognizing Crime Prevention Week with a video series designed to help residents keep themselves, their loved ones and their property safe.

The following is the Crime Prevention message of the day:

Reports of speeding and aggressive driving continue to increase in Sault Ste. Marie and Prince Township.

In order to keep yourself and others safe on area roads, we urge everyone to reduce speeds while driving. Reducing your speed will increase the time you have to react in order to avoid a collision.

Leave for your destination early. Leaving early will reduce the chances you will feel anxious about potentially arriving late and reduce the urge to drive faster.

With winter weather coming, installing winter tires will improve your overall vehicle safety and will allow you to brake and stop more effectively to avoid a collision.

Turn your mobile device off while driving. Texting and using your mobile device while driving removes your attention where it is needed most; on the road.

If you choose to drink alcohol or use drugs, do not drive. Arrange for a safe and sober ride home with a friend, cab or ride sharing service.
