Witnesses at the scene report at least seven police vehicles responded to a call of a man in the 200 block of Goulais Avenue carrying a sawed-off shotgun shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday.

Police report the suspect left the area in a vehicle prior to their arrival but the vehicle was located at 7:25 p.m. in the area of Lake Street and Pawating Place where they conducted a high-risk traffic stop.

"The accused was in the passenger seat of the vehicle and taken into custody," said a police news release issued Sunday morning. "Three other people were in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop. They were detained as part of the investigation and released unconditionally."

During the course of the investigation, police learned that a duffel bag containing a sawed-off shotgun was thrown from a window of the suspect vehicle on Pageant Drive. The gun discharged a round when it fell to the ground but no one was injured. Officers have found and secured the gun.

When police officers searched the vehicle and the accused they located a black handgun style BB gun and a knife that opens with centrifugal force.

Officers with Patrol Services arrested 27-year-old Ronald Lecuyer for careless use of a firearm as a result of the incident.

Lecuyer is charged with careless use of a firearm, careless transportation of a firearm, three counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, three counts of carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a prohibited firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle and possession of a prohibited weapon with ammunition.

He was held for bail court.
