Arson Arrests
Early this morning the Sault Ste Marie Police Service arrested three males and charged them with four counts of Arson. It is alleged that the males deliberately set four fires in the early morning hours. The fires were at the following locations:
1. A refuge bin located near the Holiday Inn at 208 St. Mary’s River Dr.
2. A wooden bench located at the Spirits Rising Monument on St. Mary’s River Dr.
3. A refuge bin located at the rear of the Salvation Army Shop at 76 Elgin St.
4. A refuge bin located beside 105 Wellington St.W.
The three accused persons are presently in custody at the City Police Station and have been identified as:
1. Travis James Bouchard, age 21, of 1052 Wellington St.E.
2. Michael Christopher Chiarella, age 20, of 30 Atwater St.
3. Spencer Francis Brason, age 18, of 15 River Rd.
The Sault Ste Marie Police Detective Office is continuing their investigation into these occurrences. The accused persons have not yet been given a court date.
Male Charged with Assault with a Weapon
Yesterday afternoon, at approx. 2:30 PM, City Police were called to attend an address in the 100 block of Cathcart St. in regards to an assault. Upon arrival officers spoke to a female that complained about being struck in the mouth with a beer bottle. The victim gave officers information on the suspect and he was subsequently located and arrested. The accused, a 39-year-old male, is charged with Assault With A Weapon. He will be appearing in court on Monday May 16th at 9:00 AM. The victim did not require medical attention.
Youth Charged with 2 Counts of Arson
Yesterday afternoon the Sault Ste Marie Police and Fire Departments received two calls to attend at Korah Collegiate regarding a fire in the washroom. The incidents occurred at 12:30 PM and at 2:30 PM. Subsequent investigation by the police led to the arrest of a youth. The young person is charged with two counts of Arson. The accused will be attending court on Tuesday May 17th at 9:30 AM.
Impaired Driver
At approx. 9:45 PM yesterday evening City Police investigated a vehicle driving in an erratic manner on Wellington St.E. Upon stopping the vehicle the officers determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. Charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Over .08 mgs is Edward Charles Diotte, age 49, of 140 Chambers Ave. He will be attending court on Monday May 16th at 9:00 AM.
Unlawful Being in a Dwelling
At approx. 6:00 AM yesterday morning City Police were called to an address in the 100 block of St.George’s Ave E. in regards to an unknown male being in the residence. Upon arrival officers located a
36-year-old male sleeping on the sofa. Charged with Unlawfully Being in a Dwelling is Troy Daniel Aikens of 749 Wellington St.E. He will be appearing in court on Monday May 16th at 9:00 AM.
