Two persons will appear in bail court this morning:

1) A 41-year old male was arrested just after 2:30 am this morning and charged with one count of assault. The accused and his common law wife were involved in an argument that escalated. The accused allegedly threw a plastic container at the victim and struck her in the face.

2) A 43-year old male was arrested at 1:30 am this morning and charged with one count of assault and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. It is alleged that the accused and his common law wife became involved in an argument and that the accused punched the victim in the face. The accused also had a small quantity of marijuana in his possession when arrested by officers.

Stolen Bicycle

Two 16-year old youths and a 15-year old youth were all arrested last evening between 11 pm and 12:20 am in regards to a stolen bike. It is alleged that the 15-year old youth stole the bike from a male youth in the evening hours of the 28th of August. It is alleged that the bike was then passed on to one of the 16-year old youths who then passed it along to the second 16-year old youth who put the bike in their home. The 15-year old youth has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000. The two 16-year old youths have each been charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime. All three youths will appear in court on October 3rd.

Public Mischef

A 26-year old female has been arrested and charged with one count of public mischief. Yesterday morning officers from Investigation Services arrested the female after investigating an incident of domestic assault. It is alleged that the female reported her ex-boyfriend assaulted her earlier this summer and the male was subsequently arrested. Based on information received during their investigation officers subsequently arrested the female for reporting an incident that allegedly did not occur. She will appear in court on October 4th.

Collision Involving a Car & Pedestrian

Yesterday afternoon officers from Patrol Service and Investigation Services attended at the intersection of Northern Avenue and Sackville Road for a motor vehicle collision involving a car and a pedestrian. A car operated by a 25-year old male was traveling eastbound on Northern Avenue. An 11-year old boy and his friend were attempting to cross Northern Avenue in a northerly direction and were in the roadway. It is alleged that the 11-year old boy then stopped and ran back in a southerly direction and ran into the side of the car. The child was taken to Sault Area Hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No charges are being laid in this collision.

Break & Enters

A residence on Robin Street was broken into sometime on Saturday August 26th. It is unknown if anything was taken.

A home on Cooper Street was broken into yesterday between 12 noon and 4 pm. It is unknown at this time if anything was taken.

Vehicle Break & Enters

City Police received several reports of thefts from vehicles yesterday. A number of the vehicles were left unlocked and some of the vehicles had their doors forced open:

1)A vehicle was entered on Poplar Avenue and a wallet and several packages of cigarettes were taken.

2) A vehicle was entered on Highcrest Avenue and a driver’s licence and a set of binoculars were taken.

3)A vehicle was entered on Trunk Road and a digital camera, digital tape recorder and the speaker part of a Bluetooth hands free speakerphone were taken.

4)Thieves attempted to steal a wakeboard from a vehicle on MacDonald Avenue but were not successful, however they did damage the doorframe.

5) A purse was taken from a vehicle on Queen Street.

6)Thieves stole a Sony CD player from a vehicle parked on MacDonald Avenue and damaged the door handle.

An Announcement From Your Friendly Neighbourhood Police

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists and parents that the start of the school year is getting close. Motorists need to keep a close eye on children when you see them near intersections or in the roadway. Often they will make sudden moves and put themselves in harms way. Officers from the Community Services Section will be in the schools shortly teaching your children road safety tips, but now is an ideal time for parents to take the time to remind children to cross with the walk signal, to cross at intersections and to follow road safety rules.
