Domestic Dispute leads to Charges On the 7 August 2013 police responded to the report of a domestic dispute. A male and female were engaged in an argument where it is alleged the man struck the female in the head with a guitar and kicked in a door.

Domestic Dispute leads to Charges

On the 7 August 2013 police responded to the report of a domestic dispute. A male and female were engaged in an argument where it is alleged the man struck the female in the head with a guitar and kicked in a door. He is charged with domestic related assault and mischief. He will be appearing in bail court on the 8th August 2013 at 10:00 AM.

Disturbance at Tim Hortons

On the 7 August 2013 police responded to a local Tim Horton’s establishment where an employee reported that a male was intoxicated and causing problems for patrons. On arrival it was found that the inebriated man was indulging himself with a bottle of Listerine. The bottle was seized and the man spent the afternoon sobering up at the city police station. He was unable to care for himself.

Accessing the Internet While Prohibited

On the 7 August 2013 police arrested Erik Sachro (33 yrs) of 315 John St on a Canada wide parole revocation warrant. It is alleged he was accessing the internet when he was prohibited from doing so. He was taken the Algoma Treatment and Remand Center.

Break in

A resident in the 100 block of Fish Hatchery Road reported that a Kodak Easy Share camera was stolen from her car while it was left unattended for a short period of time.

A residence on Ferguson Avenue was broken into between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on the 6th of August. A 70 inch Samsung Smart Television was reported stolen.

A residence in the 400 block of Korah Road was broken into between 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. A laptop computer and money were reported stolen.

Domestic

A 32 year old male was arrested as a result of a domestic violence incident. It is alleged that on the 6th of August 2013 the accused assaulted his girlfriend by grabbing her by the throat on two separate occasions and by kicking her in the stomach on a third occasion. The victim received injuries that did not require medical attention. The accused will be appearing in bail court this morning.

Break-In

A break in was reported to a residence in the 700 block of Wellington Street East. Medication, money and an I-Phone were reported stolen.

Breach of Probation

28-year old Graham Tarrant of 7-680 Portage Lane will appear in a bail court this morning.  At approximately 4 am this morning officers located the accused in an intoxicated state in the area of the underpass.  Mr. Tarrant was on was probation order with conditions not to consume alcohol and not to possess alcohol.  It is further alleged that the accused had a bottle of alcohol with him. He has been charged with two counts of breach of probation.

Three Persons in Bail Court on Drug/Weapons Offences

On August 6th, 2013 shortly before 3 pm officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Drug Unit, assisted by officers from the Crime Suppression Unit, Patrol Services and the Emergency Services Unit stopped a vehicle on Shafer Avenue.

When officers arrested the 22-year old male driver it is alleged that he resisted the officers by not following orders to place his hands behind his back. It is further alleged that this male was advising other occupants of the vehicle to get rid of items. Once the officers were able to handcuff the accused they found a fully operational stun gun on him. When this male was searched officers also located 31.2 grams of cocaine in individual baggies, 5 bullets for a .22 caliber handgun and a quantity of cash.

A 23-year old passenger male was also taken into custody and was found to have a knife that opened with centrifugal force, i.e. a flick knife, which is a prohibited weapon.

A 20-year old female passenger was also taken into custody as a result of this investigation.

Once the three accused persons were in custody a search was conducted of the vehicle and immediate area. Officers located a loaded .22 caliber 8 shot revolver under the passenger front seat and 2.5 grams of marihuana.  Officers also located a packsack with a further 720 grams of marihuana, a digital scale, packaging material and a box of bullets.

The estimated street value of the drugs is $17,570.

22-year old Derrick Derasp of 177 Alexandra Street has been charged with one count of obstruct/resist police, two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking(cocaine and marihuana), one count of possession of a controlled substance (marihuana), two counts of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose (revolver and stun gun) , one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of knowledge of an unauthorized possession of a weapon (stun gun), one count of possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, one count of possession of a loaded restricted firearm and one count of possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number. At the time of his arrest Mr. Derasp was on a prohibition order related to weapons and was further charged with three counts of breach of a prohibition order for possessing ammunition, a revolver and a stun gun.

23-year old Devin Mullin of 1224 Peoples Road was charged with one count of possession of a prohibited weapon (flick knife), one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (marihuana), one count of possession of a controlled substance (marihuana), two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (revolver and flick knife), one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of unauthorized possession of a weapon (flick knife) , one count of knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of knowledge of unauthorized possession of a weapon (flick knife), one count of possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, one count of possession of a loaded restricted firearm and one count of possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number.

20-year old Taylor Don (female) of 33 Ferguson Avenue was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (marihuana), one count of possession of a controlled substance (marihuana), one count of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose (revolver), one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of knowledge of an unauthorized possession of a firearm, one count of possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, one count of possession of a restricted loaded firearm and one count of possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number.

All three accused will appear in bail court this morning.
