Morning update

On July 9, 2013 at approximately 9pm police responded to a complaint of an intoxicated male that was inside the Bushplane Museum’s fenced compound  and was throwing barrels into the St. Mary’s River.  Police learned that the male had broken into the locked compound, entered the back of a white cube van where he was removing barrels and throwing them into the river.  In the process one of the barrels broke open spilling some of its contents into the river.  The male was able to get the van started and was driving it within the compound.  The male left on foot prior to police arrival, and was located a short distance away still in possession of the vans keys.   As a result a 17yr old male youth was arrested and charged with Break and Enter, Theft Over $5000, Mischief and Possession of Stolen Property.  He is attending bail court today.

The Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services attended the scene with their boat and retrieved the barrels from the river, placing them back on shore.  Police contacted Sea Lamprey Control board who advised that the small amount of dry granule chemical spilled into the river is non-toxic, safe and poses no risk or threat to persons or the environment.
